Renting Rims: The Decline of Western Civilization

At first I had a hard time figuring out how such economically challenged parents were able to afford such fancy rims on their cars. I watched the school parking lot of a poor school with very poor students as parents pulled up rolling on thousands of dollars worth of wheels. "That's where the money goes," I thought. I happen to know that some of these students don't have computers or even books at home. But their daddy has blingy wheels. Nice.

Check this out, folks: Rent-A-Wheel. You don't need credit. Just a job. Care to take a guess where they place these stores in the cities in which they franchise? Care to guess what the interest rates are? Am I blaming this company for something? Nope. Read my last entry about McDonald's. They're just filling a need brought on by a lack of good priorities in a part of our culture. We'd all be better off with fewer flashy rented rims and more books.

And we only have ourselves to blame.

It's all too true! This obsession with rims is just the latest in a never ending series of grossly expensive fads. I know a guy who bought $1500 rims to put on a $3000 car! Consumerism is a desease, like alcoholism or anything else. I have to check myself on occassion. There are times when I have gotten my paycheck and sat right down to consult ebay or amazon.com. It's appalling!

On the other side of the coin, we work hard for our dollar, it's ours and what we choose to do with it, is our business. If we wish to purchase some flashy rims or a yacht or a good home entertainment center, it's our money and our choice. If you don't buy (no pun intended) into that, that's fine.

It doesn't stop at just rims, though. If people can't afford to buy a big screen TV, they rent it. If they can't afford to fill their apartment with furniture, they rent it. Maybe that's why they can't afford it... good, thought provoking post!

It was annas, not anna you imbecile. And there was some good stuff there, which goes to show that even people living hundreds and even thousands of years ago without all this information around them, still knew a hell of a lot more than you.

You're like pygmies with bits o tin foil.

Congratulations for your blog.

Someone said that it's his business how to spend his dollars. I don't disagree.
However if the rims of the car is his priority in life then he is pathetic, born to be a looser.

Small car, big car, they do the same job. 32" TV, 40" TV are almost the same and do the same job.
